Dermatologic
Features
In SWS, the port-wine stain
is located in the facial area innervated by the first (ophthalmic) distribution
of the trigeminal nerve. In addition, the port-wine stain may involve, to a
variable extent, the rest of that side of the face or scalp, and may extend
down onto the neck or body as well. Depending on the extent and location of
skin involvement, about 10-30% of infants with a typical facial port-wine stain
also have SWS and may develop the neurologic or ophthalmologic complications
of this disorder.
