![]() Fellowship in Neuro-otology
The Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins offers a neurootology fellowship
under the direction of Dr. David Zee. This is a two year position with
an emphasis in the first year on clinical training and in the second year
on research. The clinical training emphasizes evaluation and treatment
of patients with dizziness, vertigo and imbalance and patients with eye
movement disorders. These patients are seen in our multidisciplinary "dizzy"
clinic, which also includes faculty members in the Department of Otolaryngology.
Clinical training also includes experience in vestibular diagnostic testing
including audiology, caloric and rotational testing, posturography, evoked
potentials, electrocochleography, etc. Research projects relate to the investigation of the physiology of the ocular motor and vestibular systems, as relevant to patients with loss of vestibular function and patients with cerebellar dysfunction. A particular emphasis is on "adaptive" control of eye movements and vestibular responses; how learning and compensation take place and how they can be augmented. Research in normal human subjects, patients and animal models is available. For information contact: David Zee, MD Pathology 2-210, The Johns Hopkins Hospital 600 N.
