Fellowship in Sleep Medicine

A single, two-year fellowship position is available for a neurologist desiring to specialize in Sleep Medicine. The Johns Hopkins Sleep disorders Center has a 6-bed sleep lab. The clinical program is a multi-disciplinary group of pulmonologists, neurologists, clinical psychologists, and psychiatrists. The program provides a broad range of clinical experiences in sleep-related disorders along with training in the technical and clinical aspects of polysomnography and EEG. The two-year program is required for any candidate wishing to fulfill the requirements for board certification in Sleep Medicine. The fellowship will involve a research commitment which can be in the areas of either clinical or animal work. Current NIH-supported research focuses on the Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS): epidemiology and genetics of RLS; CNS dopaminergic function in RLS; iron metabolism in the brain in RLS; and therapeutic trials in RLS. Animal research looking into various aspects of CNS iron metabolism and regulation in the brain and iron-related effects on dopaminergic function, is also available. The figure below is an example of some of our current research on iron and RLS.
