
Restless Legs Syndrome, (RLS), also known as Ekbom's syndrome, is a neurological condition associated with abnormal sensations in the legs.
There are four primary features of RLS:
- Uncomfortable sensation in the legs with a clear need or urge to move the legs
- The symptoms are worse at night
- The symptoms come on with rest
- The symptoms are relieved with movement

The Johns Hopkins Center for Restless Legs Syndrome is a component of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Research is a very important component of The Johns Hopkins Center for Restless Legs Syndrome because knowledge is the key to better understanding this disorder.
It is estimated that 5% of the general population and as many as 10% of those over 65 years old have RLS.
The RLS Center conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of restless legs syndrome.
