Pediatric Neurology is an integral and vital component of the Department of Neurology. The goal of the program is to train physician scientists, with interest in neurologic disorders affecting children, for academic or clinical careers.

To achieve this goal, we offer comprehensive and intense clinical exposure to pediatric and adult patients and the opportunity to pursue elective experience in clinical and research areas. The program includes a wife variety of patients, a broad exposure to expertise in clinical subspecialties and graded responsibility. All Neurology trainees, both adult and pediatric, are encouraged to pose questions and to seek solutions to the unknown aspects of disease. The teaching of medical students and colleagues is an important part of the residents' daily activities during all three years of the program.

Our Neurology Department offers a wide variety of research programs in subspecialty areas; these provide the trainee with opportunities for elective during their residency years and for postdoctoral training. The faculty strive to produce an accomplished clinician, an outstanding teacher and an individual trained to ask and answer scientifically important questions. Although this sounds like a high order, the current positions of our graduates show that it can be attained. Many ex-residents from our Pediatric Neurology training program are heads of divisions or departments, leaders in their field and funded investigators. We in the Department of Neurology are proud of all our residents. The faculty works hard to encourage their career development and we regard our trainees among our most important contributions to the clinical neurosciences.

Sincerely,

Harvey Singer, M.D.
Director, Pediatric Neurology Residency Program
